I love maxi dresses for summer, don't you? They are so soft and easy to put on! If they are made out of cotton, then they keep you cool and can hide razor stubble if you forgot to shave. :) However, one problem I sometimes have with maxi dresses is that if they are a solid color, they can make you look blocky (i.e. like a big rectangle).
This isn't always a problem, because alot of petite and curvy people benefit from monochromatic dressing, because it makes them look taller. However, this look can also hide your waist. So, with this dress, I decided to add a belt to break things up. Play around with where you put the belt. Sometimes it looks good on your hips, sometimes it works at your waist and sometimes it looks better an inch or two below your chest.
I've also tried maxi dresses with long pendant necklace and that can accomplish the same thing.
What do you think? Any tips for how you style your maxis?
